This year, European Horizons has broadened its partner network with the aim of becoming a fully-fledged student-led policy incubator as well as impacting research and policy-making in the transatlantic sphere and beyond. To this end, we have established a long-term partnership with the Instrat Foundation – a Polish public policy think tank –, which culminated in European Horizons’ first-ever joint contribution to the European Commission’s consultations on the New Competition Tool and the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the ex-ante regulatory instrument.

Within the same theme of digital innovation, our network has launched its first book in partnership with ASKO Europa Stiftung, investigating the effects of technology on economics, culture, and politics. More specifically, the publication aimed at addressing the question: “How can digital technologies build a more integrated Europe?”

European Horizons has also strengthened its presence amongst student associations by setting up a policy competition, the European Policy Prize 2021, with the European Student Think Tank and the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA). The competition revolves around finding tangible solutions for the future of Europe in an age of increasingly challenging moments ranging from the 2008 financial crisis to Brexit to the pandemic.

Our network has focused on both producing policy and generating thought-provoking debates pertaining to transatlantic affairs. Consequently, we have closely worked with the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO) in Washington DC to address the lingering problem of systemic racism, European Horizons’ first policy priority in 2020-21. Our efforts resulted in a panel discussion on the topic of Combating Systemic Racism in Europe, where we benefited from the words of MEP Samira Rafaela.
